‘Eateries play key role in promoting good image of Kuching’

KUCHING: Operators of local eateries should continue playing their part in promoting the good image of the city, and also the state and country as a whole, through good services and hospitality.

Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk James Chan believes that food outlets reflect how good our service industry is.

“We cannot afford to have eateries that are not up to the standard required by the regulators. Serving good food, practising high-level of hygiene and charging reasonable prices are all important but if that eatery could not even meet the standards required of them by the authorities, they should think of ways to improve,” he said when launching the 22nd anniversary celebration of Life Café at Jalan Padungan here yesterday.

Chan acknowledged that as business operations, eateries here face stiff competition all the time; therefore he called upon the owners to continue to be innovative and come up with good ideas in order to stay ahead.

“If all the eateries are doing this and cater for the needs of their patrons, then the public would have a variety of choices, which is good for everybody.

“This is one of the many ways for us to make this city a great place for locals and visitors alike,” he added.

On Life Café, Chan called upon its proprietor to help promote this city as ‘a food paradise’.

“By all means, offer delicious cuisine whether they originate from Taiwan or other countries, but make sure the taste suit local palates.

“This is one way private cafés like yours can help promote our city – your success will elevate the image of Kuching and it can create job opportunities for youngsters to enter the hospitality sphere.”

Later, the mayor signed the anniversary plaque to mark the celebration.

Life Café shareholders Datin Amar Katherine Wee, Datuk Richard Wee, Dato Wee Hong Seng, Ting Tmai Hing, Lucas Yong Kuet Chung and Rayond Chong Wee Chiung were present at the event.
