Malaysia does not import Ba Shu Hotpot — Noor Hisham
PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry says Malaysia does not import Ba Shu Hotpot or Ba Shu Lan Ren, an instant food product containing meat, from Chengdu, China.
Its director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry’s Food Safety Information System (FoSIM) made the confirmation.
He said all food imports into the country were subjected to provisions and regulations under the Food Act 1983.
“Based on FoSIM, there is no import of the food product into this country. The health ministry is constantly alert and takes note of issues that could be detrimental to the health of consumers,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Dr Noor Hisham was commenting on an article in The Straits Times, Singapore published on Oct 9 under the heading, ‘Import of Instant hotpot products containing meat not approved by AVA; importers fined and products seized’.
The press report stated that food products containing meat could only be imported into the republic from approved sources that had complied with the AgriFood & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) food-safety standards and requirements.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said consumers who required further information on the matter could contact the nearest district health office or state health department, or via http://moh. spab.gov.my or the Food Quality and Health Division’s facebook.
The number of dengue cases reported for the week between Oct 1 and 7 showed an increase of only one case, totalling 1,194 cases, from 1,193 cases during the previous week, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
However, he said, the cumulative number of dengue cases saw a drop of 13,133 cases, to 71,641 cases from 84,774 cases during the corresponding period last year. — Bernama
