AS a top ranking UK university that offers a wide array of programmes, Heriot-Watt University has garnered a solid reputation since its establishment in 1821.
“Studying at a prestigious global university allows me to broaden my social network; I have friends from all walks of life at Heriot-Watt University. Furthermore, the university trains us to be independent and to apply critical thinking skills at all times,” enthused Rebecca Chua Tang Tang, an MA (Hons) Accounting and Business Finance student, when asked what she enjoys most about studying at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia.
Rebecca and her fellow course mate, Tok Jia Ying, are among the university’s top five Accounting students who received the ACCA Book Prize award recently.
According to Jia Ying, HeriotWatt is well known for its worldclass teaching and accreditations from professional bodies.
“The Accounting and Business Finance programme has been accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) Australia. What’s more, students are eligible to apply for exemptions from up to nine papers from these internationally recognised bodies,” she added.
Just recently, Heriot-Watt was named the International University of the Year by the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.
The university was also ranked 28th in the UK and third in Scotland by The Complete University Guide 2018. Subsequently, HeriotWatt also placed in the top 10 in the UK and first in Scotland for Accounting and Finance according to the Guardian University Guide 2018.
Heriot-Watt University Malaysia recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ACCA to conduct the ACCA Accelerate programme.
According to this, students upon enrolling in the university’s Accounting and Business Finance programme are granted a fast track to becoming a chartered certified finance professional under the ACCA.
In fact, this programme allows students to take the remaining five papers by ACCA in their second year.
Besides that, they will gain automatic access to ACCA’s online Learning Community, which provides a platform for them to build and broaden their network globally, as well as receive career advice and study tips via direct e-mail alerts.
Heriot-Watt’s programmes are structured to ensure that students are well prepared for the workplace upon graduation.
“The programme trains us to apply knowledge found in books to real life situations. Hence, I believe this degree has prepared me well to take on challenges in the near future,” said Rebecca.
