1,500 take part in inaugural Healthy Mind charity run

KUCHING: Some 1,500 people from all walks of life joined the inaugural healthy mind charity run yesterday held in conjunctio­n with the World Mental Health Month (WMHM).

Organised by the Sentosa Hospital Psychiatri­c Welfare Organisati­on, the run aimed at creating awareness of mental health issues among the local community.

Runners gathered within the compound of Kuching South City Council ( MBKS) for a warm-up session before the flag- off by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Organising chairperso­n Dr Rosliwati Md Yusoff, in her welcoming speech, said the event was also to raise fund for the organisati­on.

“This run is held in conjunctio­n with WMHM which is celebrated in October every year,” she added.

Dr Rosliwati pointed out that the World Mental Health Day is celebrated on Oct 10 and this year’s theme was ‘Mental Health In The Workplace’.

She thanked mayor of MBKS Datuk James Chan, all sponsors, relevant parties and participan­ts for making the event a success.

The organiser also lined up a few booths at the MBKS lobby and foyer to enlighten the general public on mental health issues.

Among those present was Sentosa Hospital director Dr Ismail Drahman.
