Public encouraged to make report on ‘straying’ civil servants
KOTA SAMARAHAN: The public are welcome to make a report or file a complaint if they find any federal civil servant in the state not complying with work ethics such as loitering at food outlets during office hours.
In stating this, state Federal Secretary Datuk Mansor Man said such information will enable the respective departments to take action on the civil servant concerned.
“The public may have noticed where the federal government staff are and if there is any complaint regarding indiscipline, we will take immediate action after we investigate the complaint,” he said when met after presenting prizes to winners of the ‘Kembara Inovasi' ( Innoyouth) programme held in conjunction with the statelevel Public Service Innovation Week at the National Institute of Public Administration ( Intan) Sarawak here yesterday.
Mansor acknowledged that his officers had received many complaints from the public concerning the misconduct of federal civil servants.
However, he described them as a non-issue because the complaints did not involve breach of discipline.
“There was a case where a group of civil servants were reported to be eating and drinking during office hours but after our investigation, we found out that, in fact, they were visiting a project site and maybe they did not have time to eat or drink and therefore dropped by an eatery to have their meal.”
Nevertheless, he expressed satisfaction with the performance of federal civil servants in the state, particularly those under his office.
On another matter, Mansor said the federal public service in Sarawak has changed its way of doing things as they are now using ICT and online services which are faster and more convenient than before.
He added that Sarawak has the advantage in that there is close cooperation between the federal and state governments.
“The close relationship between the two governments is now stronger than before,” he said.
