Thousands of cosplay fans expected for CXM 2017 on Nov 4-5

MIRI: Cosplay Exhibition Miri 2017 ( CXM 2017) will be taking place at Bintang Megamall here on Nov 4 and 5, running 11am to 9pm daily.

Jointly organised by Bintang Megamall and Naja Enterprise, the event – entering its third year – celebrates the latest Japanese pop culture of cosplay and anime, manga, music and video games.

Bintang Megamall event manager Allen Wong, at a press conference yesterday, said the event started out in 2015 and since then, it has attracted thousands of followers.

“Last year, more than 3,000 attended the event; therefore, we want to offer more activities over the two- day programme this year,” he said.

Among the activities to be featured during CXM 2017 will include ‘Gunpla and Cardfight Vanguard’ competitio­n, FIFA 17 tournament, Hot Wheels drag race, stage performanc­es by local and internatio­nal cosplayers, an exhibition by toy collectors and workshops conducted by experts of Gunpla and Cardfight Vanguard.

Wong added that four popular cosplayers – Miss Tuna of South Korea, Miss Koyuki Yukihime of Thailand, Miss Chono of Vietnam, and Clarissa Punipun of Indonesia – would be making appearance­s at the event.

“They will meet and greet their fans, and also attend photo sessions.”

Apart from cosplaying, Wong said the event would include a mix of family-friendly activities suitable for children of all ages.

“We want to focus on entertainm­ent, community and cultural diversity in a fun, inclusive, safe and accessible setting for both the young and the old.

“Among the family attraction­s to be featured are a dinosaur show, appearance­s of popular cartoon mascots and superhero characters, carnival-like games, Formula 1 simulator, creative art workshop, and a street science show that would surely catch the young children’s attention.”
