‘Mersal’ adds to Deepavali celebratio­n; first Tamil movie in Sibu in 30 years

SIBU: The Deepavali celebratio­n here is being made all the more special with today’s screening of the highly- anticipate­d action blockbuste­r ‘ Mersal’, starring Tamil actor Vijay.

The film will is being shown at King’s Trioplex, and is the first Tamil movie to be shown in Sibu in almost 30 years.

According to the head of Malaysian Vijay Fans Sarawak, Karthikgeh­yen Subramania­m, Vijay fans in the state are excited with the local release of the actor’s 61st movie, which starts today at 4pm and will run for three weeks.

after Vijay fans in Sibu made a request to the manager of King’s Trioplex, Tang Chiok King, to have the movie shown here.

“This arrangemen­t, plan and effort has made every Indian in Sibu very excited, and they are eagerly waiting to watch the movie on Deepavali tomorrow (today),” he said yesterday.

Karthikgeh­yen also thanked Mersal’s nationwide distributo­r, TSR Films, for enabling the movie to be shown here after an almost 30year absence of Tamil films being screened in local cinemas due to the small Indian community in Sibu.

The official Mersal teaser on YouTube has reached one million ‘likes’ and almost 30 million views on Monday.

Karthikgeh­yen added that the highly- anticipate­d Tamil movie will be screened at 800 screens in 122 locations nationwide, with many cinemas in Kuala Lumpur already fully booked.

He further mentioned that Malaysian Vijay Fans Sarawak is a registered non-government­al organisati­on which not only has an interest in Vijay’s films, but is involved in charity work as well.
