Maybank Islamic named Best Global Islamic Financial Institution 2017
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Asean’s largest Islamic bank in terms of total assets, Maybank Islamic Bhd, has emerged as the Best Global Islamic Financial Institution at the Global Finance Awards 2017 held in Washington DC recently.
It was also recognised as the Best Global Sukuk Bank and Best Global Provider of Shariah-Compliant Short-Term Investments, its second consecutive wins in both categories, the bank said in a statement yesterday.
Maybank Islamic was also named the Best Islamic Financial Institution in Asia Pacific besides clinching the country awards for Malaysia and Singapore.
Maybank Group Head, Islamic Banking and Maybank Islamic Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohamed Rafique Merican received the awards on behalf of the Bank at a ceremony during the annual International Monetary Fund (IMF)/World Bank meeting on Oct 14.
“We are honoured to have been recognised as the World’s Best Islamic Financial Institution, after having won the best in Asia Pacific for four times since 2012 - a recognition of the commitment and capability demonstrated by the Maybank Group and Maybank Islamic in pursuing its global Islamic banking leadership aspirations,” he said.
The statement said Maybank Islamic too won the Best Islamic Financial Institution Award in Malaysia for sixth consecutive years since 2012 and the fourth time it was adjudged best in Singapore from Global Finance, the official media partner of the IMF/World Bank 2017 annual meetings. — Bernama
