Be open-minded, community leaders told

-

SIMUNJAN: Community leaders are urged to be open-minded and always be ready to accept the views and opinions of their subordinates.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Masir Kujat said community leaders need not use their own ideas all the time, but should also hear the views and opinions of their subordinates.

“This does not mean that the ideas of community leaders are not important but the views of their subordinates may expand the scope of their discussions for effective implementation of their projects.

“Intelligent leaders are those who are willing to hear the opinions of other people. Solidarity is the basis to success,” he added.

The Sri Aman MP said this at the ‘Leaders with the People’ gathering with Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Mawang Ai held at Rumah Aing Mancha in the village here Tuesday.

He believed that every JKKK would be strong if their leaders were open-minded.

Masir also urged JKKK members to help the government in curbing the many social ills besetting the youths, which is a worrying trend of late.

One of the ways was for them (JKKK) to attract the youths into participating in their many useful and beneficial activities.

“These young people have very curious mind and as such, guidance and encouragement are needed to steer them on the right track.”

At the function later, Masir announced RM5,000- grant each to the JKKK and its women bureau as well as RM20,000 for the repair the roof of the longhouse.

Pemanca Peter Moni and other community leaders were among those present at the gathering.
