RM530 million spent to transform Batang Lupar, says Uggah

KUCHING: Some RM530 million has been spent on transformi­ng the economy of Batang Lupar parliament­ary constituen­cy, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.

Speaking to reporters here yesterday, he said the constituen­cy had ‘changed a lot compared to the last time’, especially in economic activities.

“We have spent RM530 million on paddy ( plantation) in Lingga. This will offer good opportunit­ies for people in the area, by planting paddy in a new way.

“We believe it can help to increase the income of our rural people,” he said before flagging off the ‘ Kembara Batang Lupar’ programme here yesterday.

About 40 media practition­ers are taking part in the three- day programme organised by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Developmen­t.

With him at the press conference was Minister of Women, Family and Community Developmen­t and Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.

Uggah, who is also Minister of Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e, Native Land and Regional Developmen­t, said a lot of infrastruc­ture projects are going on in the ( Batang Lupar) constituen­cy.

“Regardless of how difficult it is to implement programmes, we, the Barisan Nasional government, will do them for the people. We hope our efforts will reach out to the people in rural areas,” he added.
