BN aspirant in Lubok Antu makes his move

KUCHING: An aspiring Barisan Nasional candidate for the Lubok Antu parliament­ary constituen­cy Desmond Sateng Sanjan, a localborn senior lecturer recently visited Rumah Medan, Nanga Delok to meet with and introduce himself to the villagers.

He told the crowd gathered that day that his movement in the constituen­cy of late was to introduce himself and to get to know the people in the area.

He stressed that he is offering himself as a candidate in the event that the incumbent Member of Parliament Datuk William Nyalau Badak, is not re- nominated as a candidate in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).

Hitherto, the candidate for Lubok Antu has not been finalised but Desmond stressed that if the incumbent MP were to be renominate­d as the BN candidate from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), then Desmond and his team will give full support to him.

“Lubok Antu, being a rural constituen­cy, cannot afford not to support Barisan Nasional as the area is still lagging behind in terms of infrastruc­ture developmen­t and facilities compared to urban areas,” said Desmond.

Meanwhile, the crowd gathered at Rumah Medan gave a warm welcome to Desmond and his entourage.

Desmond took the opportunit­y to introduce himself and his family roots in Ulu Delok, Batang Ai.

H e spoke about his educationa­l background and work experience as a former bank manager, as well as his current post as a senior lecturer cum Head of School of Business and Accounting at a private institutio­n of higher learning in Kuching.

Also present at the event were PRS Batang Ai Division deputy chairman Councillor Agas Thomas, vice- chairman I Councillor Naka Indap, exco member Temeling Jua and local community leaders Penghulu Lembang Bagong and Penghulu Jaul Lutau.

In their speeches, they all spoke in support of Desmond as the BN candidate for Lubok Antu.

They said that with his qualificat­ions and experience in the corporate world, he is more than qualified to represent them at the federal level.

Longhouse chieftains from surroundin­g longhouses such as Tapang Pungga, Jengin, Bertik, Bengap, as well as representa­tive from Engkaras, relatives and friends from Sebubut and Skarok also attended the function.
