Risda helps local entreprene­urs to expand business

MIRI: Entreprene­urs in rural areas should seize the opportunit­y provided by the government in its effort to develop the local economy and participat­e in the digital economy as the way forward.

Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang stressed this during his working visit to one of Rubber Industry Smallholde­rs Developmen­t Authority ( Risda) Miri division’s guided entreprene­ur, Ramlee Jinan at Kampung Kuala Sibuti about 45-minutes’ drive from Miri city yesterday.

Ahmad Lai commended Risda for aiding entreprene­urs in the rural areas to go seriously into the manufactur­ing of their products and urged the entreprene­urs to look into expanding their business digitally.

“The entreprene­urs really want to make their business work and with Risda’s assistance, the entreprene­urs are able to produce quality products to expand their markets and improve their incomes.

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is stressing on digital economy and I believe that fishermen’s children are now well educated and able use the internet to help market their parents’ or family’s products not only locally but also globally,” he said applauding Ramlee’s determinat­ion in expanding and developing his business.

and has received assistance from Risda to buy equipment worth RM15,000 this year.

The equipment that he received were slicer, mixer, heavy duty blender, stainless steel pan, twodoor fridge, fish grinding machine and plastic sealer.

For his family- run business, Ramlee gets his supply of fish locally from some family members who are fishermen.

Ramlee products under the brand name ‘Along & Joy’ includes fish, prawn crackers, banana and potato chips, salted fish, ‘ keropok’, fruits dipping sauce, belacan (shrimp paste) and also layered cakes ( kek lapis) which he markets all over the state and the peninsular as well.

Also present yesterday was Risda Miri officer Mensan Belayong.
