-

SR IA MAN: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing said racial and religious harmony can be up held by adopting the Malaysian spirit.

The Part iR akyat Sarawak (PRS) president said deep down in people’s heart, they could not deny that they are true Malaysian.

It is when they are inside the country that they became the subjects of or exposed to bigotry and extremism.

“Why is that we all would identify ourselves as Malaysians overseas but identify ourselves based on our respective race when inside the country?” he asked.

The Baleh assemblyman pointed out that in the country, there are quarters who are out to divide people or strive on racialism and extremism for their own group political mileage and justifying their narrow-minded interest.

Masing said this when officiating at PRS’ 13th anniversary celebration dinner on Sunday at a hotel here. The dinner was organised by PR S Women chaired by political secretary to the chief minister Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie. More than 1, 000 PRS members and supporters attended.

Ma sing also said that people would have to decide which coalition would rule the nation at the next election, which must be called anytime from now until middle of next year.

If taking into account the posts and comments of keyboard warriors a nd c yber t roopers in soc ial m edia, bo th Ba risan Nasional ( BN) a nd P akatan Harapan are not good, he said.

“The cyber troopers would argue that only they themselves are right while BN and Pakatan are bad.”

Masing said in the end, people would have to choose the “devil that they know rather than the devil that they do not know.”

BN i s “the d evil” t hat p eople know after ruling the nation for 54 years, he argued.

He then expressed confidence that th e m ajority o f th e p eople would root for the BN.

“If all are devils, then better to stay with the devil that we know,” he said.
