MIRI: Fifteen villagers of Kampung Merikan III in Lutong yesterday expressed their gratitude to prominent businessman Datuk Hii King Chiong for providing them with financial assistance over the weekend.

Led by their security and development committee chairman Bunyau Suda, the group met with Hii at their village on Sunday to relay their problem and to seek for emergency funds to buy planks and building materials to move to their respective lots at Tudan Resettlement Scheme.

“We thank Datuk Hii for his concern towards the livelihood of the people here and his contribution to assist us,” Bunyau told The Borneo Post.

He said the authority concerned had given a deadline for villagers at Kampung Merikan III to relocate to Tudan by the end of this month.

According to Bunyau, most of the villagers had already relocated following assistance provided by their elected representative to purchase building materials.

“The 15 of us, who are facing financial difficulties, were not part of the group who received help from the YB. We tried to seek the YB’s assistance, but failed to get any help,” he claimed.

He said due to the urgency of having to move by monthend, they decided to seek help from Hii, who did not hesitate to give RM2,000 to each of the 15 villagers.

“I’m pleased that Datuk Hii knows the situation of the villagers here by immediately giving the assistance. We, the villagers, wish to thank him for his contribution.”
