MIRI: Next year’s edition of Miri Bike Week ( MBW) is expected to assemble bikers from Borneo including Brunei Darussalam, Labuan and Indonesia.

“We hope the promotion will be expanded to attract international motorcycle owners as well as boost the local tourism and economic sectors,” Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said during the launch of MBW 2018 at Permy Mall here last Sunday.

According to him, the presence of visitors in the state will improve the hotel sector, sales of local products, services and transport sectors.

In this regard, the Senadin assemblyman urged the organiser Miri Jaguh Motor Club ( KMJM) to intensify its promotion of MBW 2018.

“We want this kind of activity to be popular not only among locals but also international participants,” he explained.

The last MBW 2017 in May was attended by more than 2,000 participants from all over Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand.

It was also an activity to discipline motorcyclists especially young riders to keep track of road rules and not engage in unnecessary activities.

“The organising of MBW helps to raise public awareness on the importance of safety while riding on the road,” he said admitting that motorcycling does not only involves men but more women are also showing deep interest.

“Women are also interested in motorsports and they are also involved as members of motorcycle clubs,” he noted.

The previous MBW edition assembled various types of highpowered bikes, classic, scooters, vespa, kapchai and other types of motorbikes and among the activities held were Beauty & The Bike competition, Karat Market, Battle of the Band, motor shows, food stalls and so on.

Also present last Sunday were organising chairman and president of KMJM Ramzie Hipni and Permymall Miri representatives as the venue sponsor.
