KUCHING: The implementation of a standardised star rating system for mosques in the state will lead to a better level of administration for Islamic institutions.

Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the move to implement the rating system, which is done in collaboration with the local councils, was timely and relevant.

“It is to ensure that all mosques in the state can be administered in the best possible ways according to the standard set by relevant agencies,” he said during the launching of the rating system at Darul Hana Mosque, here yesterday.

Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datu Misnu Taha was among those present.

Dr Abdul Rahman explained that star rating system covers, among other things, infrastructure facilities, landscaping, ambiance and use of signages.

He added the rating system should not be seen as a competition among mosques, but rather something which will ensure their wellbeing.

It was understood that the system will be officially implemented in mid-November involving the southern, northern and central regions of Sarawak.
