Nov 23 deadline for unlicensed business operators to apply — BDA
BINTULU: Unlicensed business operators here have been told to apply for a valid licence from the local authority before Nov 23 or risk facing legal action.
Bintulu Development Authority ( BDA) assistant general manager ( Environmental Services) Wan Ibrahim Wan Ali issued the warning during a dialogue session with unlicensed business operators here on Tuesday.
He disclosed the dialogue session was meant to explain the technical areas and requirements needed for the unlicensed operators to obtain a business licence.
“For the record, BDA has found there are 46 lodging houses or inns, 24 coffee shops and restaurants, and 17 laundry premises that are still operating in Bintulu without a valid licence,” he said during a press conference.
He added there were many factors which could lead to the rejection of a licence application, and stressed that operators must rectify the problem which led to the rejection in order for approval to be given.
“We brought in relevant agencies like Bomba ( Fire and Rescue Department) and other BDA officers to explain the requirements needed applying for a licence.
“If they (unlicensed business operators) need more explanation, they can just request for another (dialogue) session. We just want them to abide by the laws.
“We don’t want to force them. If others can apply, then so can they. If possible, we don’t want to bring them to court,” said Wan Ibrahim. when
