KUCHING: Naim Foundation, the charitable arm under Naim Group of Companies, recently presented academic excellence awards to outstanding students of SMK Kai Chung, Bintangor.

Naim’s corporate communications head Caroline Yeo said the awards were part of the foundation’s annual academic excellence awards programme for secondary schools students in the state.

“The awards are part of the foundation’s community outreach programme which aims, among others, to promote academic excellence among students as well as to assist underprivileged students,” she said in a statement yesterday.

A total of 17 secondary schools in Sarawak are covered under this programme.

Yeo a l so noted that the foundation, launched in 2004, also provides assistance in other areas such as advancement of research and other charitable causes.

SMK Kai Chung principal Lee Khung Kiong expressed his gratitude to Naim for extending the award to his students.

“T h e awa r d is very meaningful and has helped our students, especially those from underprivileged families, to achieve academic excellence and cultivate better discipline among them.

“We have a l so r e c eived encouraging responses from parents of the recipients, as these awards not only motivate their children, but at the same time reduce their financial burden too,” he said, adding that the school looked forward to Naim’s continuous support in the future.

Meanwhile, award recipients Siti Zulaikha Abdullah and Kong Teck Ming expressed their appreciation to Naim for the awards, saying they would utilise the prize to buy necessities for their studies.
