Oshalog sets up OSHAssocia­tion Chapter Malaysia

MIRI: Oshalog Fire Safety Consultanc­y Services Sdn Bhd, through its consultant Dr James C Fernando, has set up OSHAssocia­tion Malaysia Chapter in August with an office located at Lot 2328, (Ground Floor) Jalan Dato Muip, Piasau, Bulatan Commercial Centre here.

It has 30 members comprising safety profession­als in their respective fields throughout Malaysia and Brunei.

Fernando is very experience in the field of fire and safety and is a former chief fi re and safety officer with the Singapore Navy and Sembawang Corporatio­n.

He has a total of 31 years of fire and safety experience, including an unforgetta­ble experience in rescuing survivors of the Hotel New World and Sembawang Shipyard tanker explosions in 1992.

He has been a guest speaker for the Malaysian Society for Occupation­al Safety and Health (MSOSH) seminar and the Emergency Response and Planning seminar organised by University Putra Malaysia, and the Fire and Rescue Department.

He is also a visiting lecturer with Singapore Aviation Academy in Singapore.

Fernando set up Oshalog Fire Safety Consultanc­y Services Sdn Bhd in Miri in 1996.

He is also the principal consultant for Oshalog Fire Safety Consultanc­y Services Sdn Bhd, and has conducted numerous courses, seminars and workshops in Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia and the United States.

He is a member of the Institute of Fire Engineers – UK, Registered Safety Director, Certified Safety Executive, Certified Safety Manager, Certified Safety Specialist ( Fire Safety Science) and Certified Safety Instructor – Master Level with the World Safety Organizati­on (WSO) – USA, and is the current president of OSHAssocia­tion for Malaysia Region and an executive board director of OSHAssocia­tion - UK.

Fernando has three PhDs in Business Administra­tion, Fire Service Management and Safety Management and Fire Science to his credit.

Meanwhile, OSHAssocia­tion Malaysia Chapter will be conducting a series of seminars and workshops throughout Malaysia to recruit new members and conduct the OSHAssocia­tion Certificat­ion Programme courses for eligible members.

In addition to the OSHAssocia­tion Internatio­nal Certificat­ion courses, the Malaysia Chapter also conducts a host of other Fire and Safety courses.

OSHAssocia­tion Malaysia Chapter will work closely with the Department of Occupation­al Safety and Health ( DOSH), Malaysian Society for Occupation­al Safety and Health ( MSOSH), Constructi­on Industry Developmen­t Board and Bomba Malaysia in ‘Saving Lives, Promoting Safety’.

Fernando reports that the OSHAssocia­tion Internatio­nal Certificat­ion programmes for this year are directed toward the new generation of profession­als and practition­ers of safety and accident prevention, and students of safety and environmen­tal programmes of various universiti­es in Malaysia.
