KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad ( SEB) is supporting the upcoming urban greenery programme to beauti fy the Isthmus by the Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati).

In its press statement yesterday, SEB said 30 of its employees will join Sabati and Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU) on Nov 15 to plant seedlings along the 3.7km Jalan Keruing stretch heading towards Borneo Convention Centre Kuching from Menara SEB.

On Tuesday, a delegation from Sabati led by its deputy president Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, paid a courtesy visit to SEB group chief executive officer Sharbini Suhaili.

“Sarawak Energy is pleased to contribute to this important initiative by Sabati to beautify and green the surrounding area at Isthmus where we are located.

“Our headquarters was the first building in East Malaysia to be accredited the green building certification and so it makes sense for us to support such a healthy environmental initiative,” said Sharbini during the call.

“We also encourage staf f volunteerism in support of community initiatives as an extension of our corporate social responsibility.

“Securing and retaining the GBI ( Gr een Bui lding Index) certi f ication is part of our commitment towards incorporating sustainable practices at al l levels of our operation,” he concluded.

In its quest to incorporate sustainability at all levels, SEB also has electric cars and scooters as part of its corporate fleet, which run primarily on renewable energy as Sarawak’s generation mix is predominantly hydropower.
