KUCHING: Sarawak State Library in collaboration with the Sarawak Society For The Blind ( SSB ) and National Council For The Blind Malaysia ( NCBM ) is holding a ‘ Train The Trainer’ workshop at the library’s ICT Training Room tomorrow till Sunday from 8.30am to 5pm daily.

“As we all know, finding a job nowadays is difficult for everyone especially for the blind and visually impaired. This is because a lot of work depends on the function of eyes.

“Therefore, the Sarawak Society For The Blind ( SSB) together with the Sarawak State Library and National Council For The Blind Malaysia ( NCBM) is taking initiatives to assist the blind and visually impaired to seek employment through this series of ‘ Train The Trainer’ workshop,” the library said in a press statement yesterday.

“SSB also believes that the blind and visually impaired have their own unique specialties, skills and talents.

“This training will focus on improving the participants’ skill and competency as well as to ensure that they are ready to compete in the job market.”

The workshop will kick off with the introduction of an open source screen reader, Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA). The NVDA is an open source screen reader that can run smoothly even on a low end computer.

Through the workshop, SSB hopes to produce their own experts and eventually full-time trainers who have skill and knowledge in conducting and giving training to further empowering the economy of the blind and visually impaired.
