RMN hosts WPNS JOIP, ANYOI programmes

PORT KLANG: The Royal Malaysian Navy ( RMN) has become the first host of the four-day Western Pacific Naval Symposium Junior Officer Internatio­nal Programme’ ( WPNS JOIP), in addition to being the sixth host for the ‘ ASEAN Navy Young Officers Interactio­n’ (6th ANYOI) programme which commenced on Wednesday.

The two programmes are combined to provide exposure to young navy officers on the importance of developing regional co- operation network other than creating a communicat­ion mechanism by exchanging views and ideas to further strengthen the maritime security level in future.

Forty- eight young officers including seven women with the rank of lieutenant and below, from 24 nations, including Canada, United States, Mexico, Russia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Bangladesh, India, United Kingdom, France, Chile and Pakistan were taking part in the programme.

In addition, ASEAN nations, namely, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippine­s, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia are also participat­ing in the programme.

Defence Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum launched the WPNS JOIP and 6th ANYOI at the National Hydrograph­ic Centre here on Wednesday night.
