MyE-portfolio enhances students’ digital curriculum vitae

-

SERDANG: The national level Undergraduate Portfolio will be developed in every public university to help gain holistic visibility which would help them obtain jobs and get sponsorships, industrial training and participate in student exchanges, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.

He said the portal had been developed in five pioneer universities, namely Universiti Putra Malaysia ( UPM), the International Islamic University Malaysia ( UIAM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia ( UTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia ( UKM) and Universiti Teknologi Mara ( UiTM).

He said the MyE-portfolio portal would be a platform for undergraduates to showcase their abilities through reflective journals, images, videos, animation or multimedia which would enhance their resume videos.

“This portfolio is a new medium to help undergraduates face the world of 21st century employment which is increasingly more challenging. I was informed that some final-year undergraduates have already received offer letters when the employers were satisfied with their portfolios.

“I hope the MyE-portfolio will be set up by all undergraduates in tertiary institutions as early as the first semester and with the support of the university management,” he told reporters after launching the portal in UPM here yesterday.

Idris added that technological advancements and the nation’s strive towards the Industrial Revolution had changed the landscape of teaching and learning from physical to digital forms, from local and static to global and flexible.

He said MyE-portfolio would help the industry explore the eportfolios of the students, and it would also be a platform for students to develop their talents and potential.

Asked if the employers could access the students’ data through a website, Idris said in the future, all the students’ portfolio would be integrated in one website to help employers look for the talents and skills they needed.

“At present, the employers will have to explore the students’ eportfolios through the individual university’s website,” he said. — Bernama
