47 attend Sports Science petanque course

BINTULU: A tot a l o f 47 participan­ts from all divisions recently completed the Sports Science Level 1 petanque course held at the Saratok District Council meeting room.

The closing ceremony for the five- day course was officiated by Saberkas Kalaka chairman Abadi Hussein representi­ng Kalaka assemblyma­n Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz last Saturday.

Sarawak Petanque Associatio­n ( Pepsar) secretary Janudin Ab Rahman was looking forward to the participan­ts passing out as qualified coaches.

“I hope all of them will pass and become a certified coach, so far there are only five certified petanque coaches in Sarawak,” he said.

He hoped they could then contribute towards the effort to help Sarawak become a sports powerhouse in petanque.

Meanwhile, Abadi commended Pepsar for organising the course and for choosing Saratok as the venue.

“So with t hese cer t i f ied coaches, hopefully can lead to more Sarawakian­s representi­ng the country in the internatio­nal level championsh­ips such as the Asian Games and Olympics,” he added.

Also present at the closing ceremony were Sarawak Sports Counci l course committee chairman Jubali Suhaili who represente­d the MSNS director, National Coaching Academy officer Freddy Affendy, Sarawak MSNS petanque sports coordinato­r Zurema Majenan, Malaysian Petanque Federation technical committee member Rasit Desa and Saratok Petanque Associatio­n president Abg Shamsudin Abg Ahmad.
