MMA Sarawak Branch celebrates 45th anniversary
KUCHING: Malaysian Medical Association ( MMA) Sarawak Branch recently celebrated its 45th anniversary with a dinner at Imperial Hotel on October 21.
The event was attended by Local Council Minister Datuk Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, National MMA President Dr Ravindran Naidu , Deputy Director of the State Health Department Dr Nordin Salleh, Deputy Dean of the medical faculty of Unimas Prof Dr Kamarudin Kana and also the chairpersons of other professional bodies in the state.
According to a press release, MMA Sarwak Branch has about one thousand active members from all over the state. In addition to the main Exco, the association has 4 sub- committees in Sibu, Sarikei, Bintulu and Miri.
Members comprise doctors in the public service as well as those in private practice and the academia.
During the event , Dr. Sim was presented with the MMA Sarawak Branch Honours award for his contributions to the medical profession and also to the MMA Sarawak Branch as a past chairman and committee member for more than 10 years.
The MMA Sarawak Branch Public service award was given to Dr Mohamad Tariq, an Egyptian surgeon who has served in Sarawak for more than 13 years and actively participated in many voluntary activities in the state.
The event also saw the past chairmans and chairpersons of the MMA Sarawak Branch felicitated with appreciation awards, while the Kenyalang Medical Foundation ( KMF) excel lence awards were also awarded to Unimas Medical students.
