TRC adds on to fleet for Pan Borneo Highway project

-

KUCHING: Trans Resources Corporation Sarawak Sdn Bhd ( TRC) has recently acquired state- of-the- art Caterpillar Soil Compactor CS54B to add to its f leet for the development of 65km of Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway Project from Sungai Awik Bridge to Bintangor junction.

The latest model of Caterpillar CS54B model features the standard 10 tonnes smooth drum fitted with CAT Compaction Control Technology cal led ‘ Machine Drive Power’ or MDP.

The machine, built with CAT C4.4 electrical engine, can go up to 131hp with Advanced Combu st ion Emi s s ions Reduction Technology (ACERT) which is equipped with EU Stage III.

The CAT CS54B has an exclusive dual pump system with dedicated hydraul ic f low for each drum drive and rear axle motor which would enable the machine to have a consistent performance and exceptional traction in rough or hilly terrains.

MDP is an exclusive Caterpillar Technology which measures rolling resistance to determine the stiffness of the materials.

It also uses energy- based technology which not only works using vibration, it can also work without vibration and it is suitable for all type of materials ( granular and cohesive).

The MDP technology could allow the contractors to further improve the work efficiency and reduce costs by providing the operator an indication of soil stiffness, eliminating guesswork, reducing the number of people on the job site, reducing the number of equipment needed on the site, optimising ef ficiency, ident i fying compac t ion problems, and reducing risk of reworking on the same site.

Pr ior to the machine acquisition, Sime Darby Indust rial Sdn Bhd has conducted the trial at the TRC’s job site in Betong, Sarawak.

The CS54B machine cum with MDP has been tested on the compatibility and reliability of MDP reading.

At the end of the trial, the machine fit ted with MDP Technology has proven that the MDP value was correlated with the actual density measurement in accordance with Industry practice.

The MDP has also proven to be very useful as a guide for the operator to compact efficiently and eliminate the guessing job.
