MIRI: There is a need to refine the work scope of assistant medical officers with the government’s latest agenda toward the National Transformation 50 (TN50).

This conference has successfully served its purpose to empower the assistant medical officers’ scope of works which also include those who serve at public health or medical level in hospitals. — Datuk Sebastian Ting, Piasau assemblyman

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting thus agreed that a conference to empower assistant medical officers’ scope of works would be an ideal platform to discuss thoroughly their scope of works.

“This conference has successfully served its purpose to empower the assistant medical officers’ scope of works which also include those who serve at public health or medical level in hospitals,” he said when closing the Sarawak Northern Zone Mini Conference during a dinner here last Friday.

The conference was organised by Sarawak Union Medical Assistants (Miri branch). It was the first one held in the northern region.

“I’ve been informed that the work of assistant medical officers has been in existence in the country since the past 120 years, which makes it among the oldest in the country.

“There is no doubt this profession has undergone a revolution of sorts to ensure their scope of works is relevant to the people’s current need.”

Later, he announced a government grant of RM5,000 under his minor rural project (MRP) for the branch to carry out its many activities.

Divisional medical officer Dr Veronica Lugah who is also patron of Sarawak Northern Zone Mini Conference 2017, Dr Chia Boon Yong representing Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong, head of Miri Hospital’s assistant medical officers Omaramiyah Mejah and the conference advisor and branch chairman Azamri Othman were among those present.
