Seize opportunities, rural kids encouraged
LONG LAMA: Students in rural areas must realise the importance of education and place great emphasis on equipping themselves with relevant skills and knowledge in facing face the highlycompetitive job market.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who gave this advice, also stressed that with the determination to become successful in their studies, the younger generation could be assured of better job opportunities and livelihood in the future.
“Seize every educational opportunity as your future lies in your own hands.
“With the increasing number of diploma and degree holders today, the job market gets even more competitive; thus, having top quality education is essential,” he spoke in officiating at the ‘Majlis Doa Pemberkatan Pelajar SPM & STPM 2017’ at the community hall here yesterday.
“Continuous support from teachers, friends and family is important. We need to help our children realise their potential, be fully prepared for examinations and strive for the best in their education, and their lives after that,” the assemblyman added.
Present at the ceremony were 126 and 57 respective candidates for this year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations.
The students from SMK Long Lama will be sitting for their examinations from November to December this year.
Dennis also reminded the students that these examinations would be crucial in helping them pursue tertiary studies.
“Students should start charting their career paths and work towards achieving their dreams,” he advised.
Dennis commended the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA) for hosting the event, aimed at motivating the younger generation to do at their best in their studies.
He also extended his best wishes to the students for their upcoming examinations.
“We hope to be have a highlyeducated younger generation in Telang Usan constituency, who would be motivated to contribute back to their communities in the future,” he added.
After recital of prayers, students showed their love and appreciation to parents and teachers.
The attendees were also treated to a montage depicting the students’ years in secondary school.
SMK Long Lama principal Matthew Laing Ngau, its PTA president Pastor Thomas Anyi and state administrative officer (SAO) Ezra Uda were among those present at the event.
With over 600 students and more than 60 teachers, SMK Long Lama is the largest school in Telang Usan constituency.
