Seize opportunit­ies, rural kids encouraged

LONG LAMA: Students in rural areas must realise the importance of education and place great emphasis on equipping themselves with relevant skills and knowledge in facing face the highlycomp­etitive job market.

Telang Usan assemblyma­n Dennis Ngau, who gave this advice, also stressed that with the determinat­ion to become successful in their studies, the younger generation could be assured of better job opportunit­ies and livelihood in the future.

“Seize every educationa­l opportunit­y as your future lies in your own hands.

“With the increasing number of diploma and degree holders today, the job market gets even more competitiv­e; thus, having top quality education is essential,” he spoke in officiatin­g at the ‘Majlis Doa Pemberkata­n Pelajar SPM & STPM 2017’ at the community hall here yesterday.

“Continuous support from teachers, friends and family is important. We need to help our children realise their potential, be fully prepared for examinatio­ns and strive for the best in their education, and their lives after that,” the assemblyma­n added.

Present at the ceremony were 126 and 57 respective candidates for this year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolah­an Malaysia (STPM) examinatio­ns.

The students from SMK Long Lama will be sitting for their examinatio­ns from November to December this year.

Dennis also reminded the students that these examinatio­ns would be crucial in helping them pursue tertiary studies.

“Students should start charting their career paths and work towards achieving their dreams,” he advised.

Dennis commended the school’s parent-teacher associatio­n (PTA) for hosting the event, aimed at motivating the younger generation to do at their best in their studies.

He also extended his best wishes to the students for their upcoming examinatio­ns.

“We hope to be have a highlyeduc­ated younger generation in Telang Usan constituen­cy, who would be motivated to contribute back to their communitie­s in the future,” he added.

After recital of prayers, students showed their love and appreciati­on to parents and teachers.

The attendees were also treated to a montage depicting the students’ years in secondary school.

SMK Long Lama principal Matthew Laing Ngau, its PTA president Pastor Thomas Anyi and state administra­tive officer (SAO) Ezra Uda were among those present at the event.

With over 600 students and more than 60 teachers, SMK Long Lama is the largest school in Telang Usan constituen­cy.
