Good Samaritans donate to retirement home

-

KUCHING: Home of Santa Clara, a retirement home for Catholic nuns, continues to receive more donations from a group of good Samaritans through voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw.

The items comprising food items and adult diapers were delivered there recently and meant to reduce the financial expenditure of the home located at Jalan Airport here and currently housing more than 10 elderly nuns.

Lim when met yesterday said he thanked the donors for their assistance despite the fact that they are not even Christians or Catholics.

He singled out a construction company in MJC, a Mr Lai and family and a Mr Law and family, for their generous contributions.

“The difference in religion and belief did not stop them from giving to charity. This is the spirit I salute, and worthy of emulation by the younger generation,” he said.

The former marine police personnel also said it was his 713rd act of charity since retiring from the service 11 years ago, adding that he decided to devote his life to charity work in order to help and reach out to the unfortunate members of the society.

On another matter, Lim said poor families can look for him at 082-248153 or 016-8070388 if they need help to get coffin for burial of their loved ones.

He said 13 coffins have been delivered to poor families in areas as far as Bau, Serian and Sri Aman courtesy of financial aid from donors who help to purchase coffins now stored at a shop in Mile 3 1/2 here.
