Miri to host 6th International Ballroom Dance Championship 2017
MIRI: More than 100 international ballroom dancers and Malaysia will converge here for 6th Miri International Dance Championship 2017.
Organising chairperson Helen Lai disclosed yesterday that the event endorsed by the Malaysian Ballroom Dancers Association (MBDA) will be held on Dec 2 at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club.
“The competition aims to promote as well as improve the standard of ballroom dancing among locals as there will be dancers coming all the way from Italy, Holland, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines including Kuala Lumpur and Sabah,” she said during Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin’s meet-the-people session at the Senadin branch of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) office.
Helen believes the participation of international, regional and national ballroom dancers is also promoting Miri as tourist destination. “Following the event we hope that organisers of international and regional competitions would consider Miri as the venue for future events,” she added.
