Miri to host 6th Internatio­nal Ballroom Dance Championsh­ip 2017

MIRI: More than 100 internatio­nal ballroom dancers and Malaysia will converge here for 6th Miri Internatio­nal Dance Championsh­ip 2017.

Organising chairperso­n Helen Lai disclosed yesterday that the event endorsed by the Malaysian Ballroom Dancers Associatio­n (MBDA) will be held on Dec 2 at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club.

“The competitio­n aims to promote as well as improve the standard of ballroom dancing among locals as there will be dancers coming all the way from Italy, Holland, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippine­s including Kuala Lumpur and Sabah,” she said during Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin’s meet-the-people session at the Senadin branch of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) office.

Helen believes the participat­ion of internatio­nal, regional and national ballroom dancers is also promoting Miri as tourist destinatio­n. “Following the event we hope that organisers of internatio­nal and regional competitio­ns would consider Miri as the venue for future events,” she added.

the session was the organiser of The Realm 3: Street Dance Showcase Championsh­ip as part of New Year countdown in Miri.

The organising chairman Jeff Chan Boon Chen from Timothy Dance Studio disclosed that the competitio­n will be held at Boulevard on December 31.

“We want to provide dancers in the state and the region a platform to showcase their talents and creativity, as well as to promote hip-hop dance as healthy activity among youths in Sarawak’s active resort city.
