Kelantan police tracking down suspect in oil palm plantation investment scam

-

KOTA BHARU: Kelantan police are tracking down a man from Pasir Mas known as Wan Azhar Wan Zee, 28, to facilitate investigations into an oil palm plantation investment scam in Gua Musang involving losses of over RM200,000.

Its Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Mohd Zulmazi Che Daud said the suspect was believed to still be in the state though his family members claimed he was in Kuala Lumpur.

“According to a report lodged by a victim, the suspect had offered him shares in an oil palm plantation which promised high returns,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Mohd Zulmazi said so far police have only received report from this victim who is also an acquaintance, and the victim has neither received any dividends nor heard anything from the suspect after handing over RM200,000 to him.

“We understand several other people have been deceived after they were promised lucrative profits,” he said.

He said investigations revealed that the suspect offered investment shares in a 30-hectare plantation in Gua Musang which was nonexistent, promising them that dividends would be paid once they handed over the fees to him.

He said police also found that the suspect had been carrying out this activity for the past two years and had managed to collect quite a sum to enable him to own several luxury vehicles.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zulmazi said police believed that the Macau Scam syndicate was now focusing on victims in East Coast state areas.

He said the syndicate members would disguise as bank officers or call to say that they were from the police headquarters to threaten victims.

The victims would be informed that they have arrears in their credit card payments and further instructed to transfer money into a supposedly Bank Negara account, he added. — Bernama
