500 participate in Saberkas Batu Kitang Telematch
KUCHING: Around 500 Sarawak United National Youths Organisation (Saberkas) members from 14 units of Batu Kitang branch converged at Kampung Paya Mebi to participate in the two-day Saberkas Batu Kitang Branch Sports Telematch which started yesterday.
Activities carried out included futsal competition, darts, tug-ofwar, karaoke, ketupat weaving, a National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) exhibition and free health and eye checks by State Health Department. The event, organised by Saberkas Batu Kitang branch in collaboration with Kampung Paya Mebi, was officiated by Saberkas State Exco Dato Ahmad Ibrahim, who is also Saberkas Batu Kitang branch deputy chairman. Ahmad said the event was organised in line with their aspiration to develop youths who are not only healthy and active in sports but also skilled, responsible and highly motivated to contribute to the development of the state’s human capital.
Also present were Saberkas Batu Kitang Branch secretary Shamsudin Unai, vice chairman Stephen Jipeng, Saberkas Unit Paya Mebi chairman Ramli Bujang and Kampung Paya Mebi village chief Ismail Tangok.
Meanwhile, the closing ceremony will be officiated by Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang today.
Assistant Minister of Corporate Affairs Abdullah Saidol, who is also Saberkas secretary, is also expected to attend.
Highlights during the closing include an awareness talk on drug abuse by a former drug addict.
