Hussein’s leadership principles still relevant to TN50 — Hishammuddin
KUALA LUMPUR: The principles upheld by the country’s third prime minister, Tun Hussein Onn while he was leading the country are still relevant for adoption in the country’s development in line with National Transformation 2050 ( TN50).
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said his father was committed in fulfilling his mandated obligations, putting unity as the core of the country’s success and always ensuring the state’s position in the context of international affairs.
“These things are important and still relevant today in the context of the country’s aspiration to become a developed nation and TN50...in the context of determination, honesty, integrity and commitment in carrying out responsibility, uniting everyone in the increasingly challenging world with various issues that can create discord among the population, as well as Malaysia’s position in a borderless world,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after the handover of the Tun Hussein Onn Memorial Building ( MTHO) to National Archives, also attended by the latter’s director- general Datuk Azemi Abdul Aziz.
Hishammuddin, who is also Special Functions Minister, said MTHO’s building in Bukit Perdana was built featuring modern architecture with green technology which reflected the personality of Hussein, who was also known as the ‘ Father of Unity’.
Meanwhile, Azemi said the four- storey building costing RM39 million was the National Archives’ first green building, and received recognition from the Green Building Index.
“The construction of MTHO started in July 2015 was completed on Sept 13 — divided into several galleries that housed the personal belongings of Tun Hussein Onn, and based on chronological events from the beginning, including during Tun’s leadership era as prime minister to the time of his passing,” he said.
MTHO is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm. — Bernama
