160 Song pupils attend ICT programme
KAPIT: A total of 160 SK Cardinal Vaughan, SK Nanga Temalat, and SJK Hin Hua pupils recently took part in the Cambridge ICT Starters Programme.
The information and communications technology education programme is accredited by Cambridge International Examinations, United Kingdom.
Pupils were exposed to word processing, graphics and spreadsheets under the programme for rural and underserved schools through a public-private partnership between the state government, Forest Concession Area Fund, and Danawa Education Sdn Bhd.
“It aims to inculcate basic ICT literacy skills to students, conduct formal ICT assessments and of primary importance, to assist the state government in ensuring that students in rural and sub-urban areas are not left behind in terms of ICT adoption. Early exposure to ICT helps boost confidence, encourages creativity, and creates interest in ICT,” said Danawa Education Sdn Bhd chief executive Tan Yii Ying.
“The Cambridge ICT Starters offers more than digital literacy. We have testimonials and positive feedback from education officers and school teachers lending their support to the programme.”
She said the programme develops language skills, fosters collaboration and stimulates problem-solving.
“Students enjoy the programme – they are very engaged with computers and it is worthwhile that they are focused on learning ICT in a safe and guided education environment.
“With the right tools and guidance, students in rural areas can compete against their urban counterparts and win,” added Tan.
