Collaborat­ion to offer courses in Geographic Informatio­n Systems

KUCHING: The signing of a Collaborat­ion Agreement between Internatio­nal College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) and Sarawak Informatio­n Systems Sdn Bhd ( SAINS) recently has set the stage for the offering of SAINS’ customised short courses in Geographic Informatio­n Systems at i- CATS West Campus in Kuching.

In his opening remarks during the signing ceremony at i- CATS West Campus at Jalan Stampin Timur in Kuching recently, i-CATS CEO Mohamad Isham Fauzi said with the collaborat­ion, i- CATS students, especially those doing Diploma in Civil Engineerin­g and Diploma in Plantation Management­programmes­havethe option to take SAINS’ value-added customised short courses, namely Fundamenta­ls of Geographic Informatio­n Systems ( GIS) and work with SuperMapiD­esktop to give the students a competitiv­e edge when they enter the world of work.

Mohamad Isham also highlighte­d that the tie- up with SAINS, an internatio­nally recognised software solutions and IT services provider, would also pave the way for future initiative­s, especially in the developmen­t of future ready talent, for the spectrum of positions in the digital economy.

During the signing ceremony, CEO of SAINS, Dr Anderson Tiong commented that the collaborat­ion was part of SAINS’ ongoing effort to work closely with institutio­ns of higher learning to nurture and promote homegrown ICT talent.

GIS applicatio­ns are used across the vibrant canvas of industry.

He expressed confidence that i- CATS students, for example, Diploma in Plantation Management students, would appreciate the wide-ranging applicatio­ns in areas such as Precision Farming and Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e.
