Collaboration to offer courses in Geographic Information Systems
KUCHING: The signing of a Collaboration Agreement between International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) and Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd ( SAINS) recently has set the stage for the offering of SAINS’ customised short courses in Geographic Information Systems at i- CATS West Campus in Kuching.
In his opening remarks during the signing ceremony at i- CATS West Campus at Jalan Stampin Timur in Kuching recently, i-CATS CEO Mohamad Isham Fauzi said with the collaboration, i- CATS students, especially those doing Diploma in Civil Engineering and Diploma in Plantation Managementprogrammeshavethe option to take SAINS’ value-added customised short courses, namely Fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems ( GIS) and work with SuperMapiDesktop to give the students a competitive edge when they enter the world of work.
Mohamad Isham also highlighted that the tie- up with SAINS, an internationally recognised software solutions and IT services provider, would also pave the way for future initiatives, especially in the development of future ready talent, for the spectrum of positions in the digital economy.
During the signing ceremony, CEO of SAINS, Dr Anderson Tiong commented that the collaboration was part of SAINS’ ongoing effort to work closely with institutions of higher learning to nurture and promote homegrown ICT talent.
GIS applications are used across the vibrant canvas of industry.
He expressed confidence that i- CATS students, for example, Diploma in Plantation Management students, would appreciate the wide-ranging applications in areas such as Precision Farming and Modernisation of Agriculture.
