MIRI: A total of 26 Kampung Muhibbah Community Development Department’s ( Kemas) Tabika ( kindergarten) Kuala Baram pupils here visited Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency ( MMEA) at Marina Bay recently.

Tabika Kemas teacher Nurul Akmal Arbi said the visit aimed to expose the children to the work of uniformed members and the national defence assets.

“We want these children to know that the national defence is not only controlled by police and military personnel but also MMEA that protects the waters of the country.

“The visit provides exposure and experience to the pupils and teachers on MMEA’s function in safeguarding the nation,” she said in a statement to The Borneo Post.

The pupils were briefed by MMEA officers Lieutenant Commander ( M) Mohd Sharim Zakaria, Lieutenant ( M) Wan Syarafi Wan Mohd Nasir and Lieutenant ( M) Mohd Zahir Mohammad Basri.

They were divided into two groups and taken to visit MMEA’s KM Rhu and KM Stapa.

Nurul Akmal said the pupils were excited, asking many questions of the MMEA officers, especially on the vessels’ operations.

“My hope is that through this visit, some students will have ambitions to become officers or members of MMEA,” she said.

Three teachers, three assistant teachers and 18 parents joined the trip.
