Digital economy, tourism among Sarawak issues to be discussed during WIEF 2017

KUCHING: Issues pertaining to the developmen­t of the state will be discussed during the 13th World Islamic Economic Forum 2017 ( WIEF 2017) to be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) form Nov 21-23.

WIEF Foundation secretaryg­eneral Tan Sri Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak said the forum will discuss three issues, namely digital economy, tourism and investing in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

“As Kuching is hosting the forum, three issues relating to Sarawak’s developmen­t will be discussed on November 23.

“The first issue is digital economy, the second is the developmen­t of Sarawak as a tourist destinatio­n and third, investment in SCORE,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Ahmad Fuzi, meanwhile, disclosed that seven topics relating to Islamic economy will be touched on during WIEF 2017, among them education, commerce, Islamic finance, entreprene­urship and developmen­t of the halal industry.

“We hope the forum will be a platform for government and private agencies to discuss what needs to be done based on the topics discussed over the three days.”

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, and Indonesian president Joko Widodo will be among the leaders taking part in the forum.

“Up to now, around 900 delegates from outside Sarawak have confirmed their attendance for WIEF 2017. However, we expect more than 2,000 will be registerin­g for this internatio­nal event,” he added.
