Teach for Malaysia team visits international school

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 59 Teach for Malaysia teachers recently visited Garden International School (GIS) to observe and learn from the innovative and inspirational teaching and learning.

The visiting teachers also attended presentations by teachers, had a school tour, as well as a question and answer session.

A press statement yesterday said Teach for Malaysia is an independent, not- for- profit organisation that works to end education inequity in Malaysia.

It recruits, trains and supports bright Malaysian graduates, who teach as fellows in high-need schools to create an impact in underprivileged communities nationwide.

The recent visit was scheduled to further support the fellows’ teacher training.

They were accompanied by Teach for Malaysia head of regions Chan Soon Seng.

“I had the privilege of attending GIS as a student so it’s great to be able to return and allow Teach for Malaysia fellows to explore the school as they develop their understanding of excellent practice,” said Chan.

Principal Mark Ford said the school was honoured to host the aspiring teachers.

“The event was a great opportunity for Teach for Malaysia’s trainees and GIS’ teachers to share and discuss pedagogy, as well as different ways to best support student learning.

“We care about the same thing, namely how to create excellent learning opportunities for children.

“We are very pleased to see the enthusiasm these potential teachers have shown and look forward to hosting more Teach for Malaysia’s trainees in the future,” he said.
