Set up Kospen Plus — DO
BINTULU: Government agencies and the private sector in the division have been urged to set up Kospen Plus in their respective organisations.
Bintulu district officer Mataip Sayu said Kospen or ‘ Komuniti Sihat Pembina Negara’ is one of the many government initiatives to promote healthy lifestyles among the people.
“This is a comprehensive programme aimed to have communities with high level of awareness on healthcare,” he said when officiating at the closing of the divisional-level Kospen Conference 2017 at Bintulu Promenade Hotel recently.
The two- day conference was participated by Kospen members from 33 localities in Bintulu including five agencies namely Asean Bintulu Fertilizer Sdn Bhd, IPD Tatau, IPD Bintulu, Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism and Bintulu Health Office.
Various activities were held during the conference- aerobic Zumba exercise, Kospen briefi ng, poster contest, Kospen oral contest and health exhibition.
“With the establishment of Kospen at the community level and Kospen Plus at the workplace, people would be exposed to good health practice as recommended by the government,” said Mataip.
He said the programme which was implemented based on smart partnership between the Ministry of Health, Community Development Department (Kemas) and National Unity and Integration Department must be given the support from all parties including community leaders, employers and the local community.
“I am confident that Kospen volunteers who were chosen and trained by the Health Department will be able to organise more health- related activities in their respective localities and organisations.
Meanwhile Bintulu health officer Dr Nur Fatihah Oh Abdullah said in Bintulu Kospen programme has been implemented since 2014 and has registered a total of 43 localities comprising 12 villages and 31 longhouses to- date. She said Kospen is an initiative of the Ministry of Health in 2013 to tackle and to fi nd solutions against the non communicable disease (NCD) in order to improve the health of Malaysians.
According to her, the implementation is based on volunteers from the community who will act as agents of change to mobilise society towards healthy lifestyles and prevent NCD.
