Christmas activities at Chuang Corridor from Dec 2 to 26

SIBU: The Associatio­n of Churches (ACS) Sibu branch has lined up a string of activities to celebrate Christmas this year.

The almost month-long programme themed ‘The Greatest Gift’ will be held at Chuang Corridor in Sibu Town Square nightly from 7.30pm to 9pm from Dec 2 to 26.

Organising chairman Yiing Sy Huat said the objective of the programme is to promote and share the story of Christmas which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.

“It is also to make Sibu an attractive town for sightseein­g during Christmas,” he told reporters at a press conference to announce the programme recently.

The ‘Christmas Run’ on Dec 2 is the curtain-raiser to the programme, Yiing said, adding that they expect 1,000 runners to be flagged off at 6.30am.

“At 7pm, Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King will officiate at the opening of the programme,” he said.

He said there will be 14 canopies.

“Every visitor will be given a booklet which he or she may use to collect a stamp from every canopy to redeem a mystery gift.

“Every booklet with 14 stamps entitling the bearer to a Blessed Draw,” he added.

A Christmas procession will be held, starting from Sibu Town Square at 6pm on Dec 16.

Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee will officiate at the closing of the programme at 7pm on Dec 26.

“We welcome sponsorshi­ps for our programme in whatever forms,” Yiing said.
