Graduates asked to prepare for Industry 4.0

-

KUCHING: Graduates in Sarawak have been asked to prepare themselves with the relevant knowledge and skills for Industry 4.0.

Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong said Industry 4.0 has the potential to raise global income levels as well as improve quality of life.

“However, there are also arguments that Industry 4.0 might reduce jobs,” said Manyin during NIIT College's 16th convocation ceremony yesterday.

He said this is because some jobs may be taken over by machines.

However, Manyin said the revolution could also open up mass employment by creating efficient new jobs.

The Tebedu assemblyman said the use of computers and drones is on the rise in the state.

“The usage of these technologies I believe will be used in years ahead,” said Manyin.

NIIT College managing director Anderson Voon said the 64 graduates received their diplomas in Accountancy, Business Management and Information Technology.

“You have much to offer and much to gain. I hope that you give full play to your qualities based on the personal strengths you have cultivated at NIIT College,” he said.

Best Student Awards went to Olivia Ng Li Wen, Nurul Hidayatul Asyimah, and Jorden Liu Chin Hao.

Ng also received the Outstanding Achievement Award.

The Regal Best Scholar Award went to Chai Xing Xing, while the Best Final Year Project Award went to Lai Lie Cheng for her fire evacuation simulation project.
