Visit fire station to learn fire prevention measures, public advised

-

MIRI: Members of the public should consider visiting the nearest fire station to learn fire prevention measures as well as how to handle fire- related scenarios.

Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) Miri zone chief Law Poh Kiong said the department has conducted countless talks and demonstrations on fire safety, adding they were more than happy to accommodate visitors.

“Paying a visit to the nearest fire station is always wise as Bomba personnel can demonstrate and educate the public on the right way of handling fire- related situations.

“To date, our department has conducted countless talks and demonstrations on fire safety following requests from the longhouses and villages in the vicinity of Miri.

“Similarly, we receive many visits from different agencies, organisations and schools every year to educate on the dangers of fire, and we are happy because this shows people are now more aware of unforeseen incidents such as fire,” he said.

Speaking at the ‘ My Beautiful Neighbourhood 2017’ programme under the National Blue Ocean Strategy 7 yesterday, Law added that being careless when handling fires, particularly during daily routine such as cooking, can result in serious consequences.

On the programme, Law said Bomba personnel had completed the construction of two new homes – one in Bakam and another in Kampung Pujut Padang Kerbau – and repaired six others in Tudan, Bekenu and Tudan.

“Of course, we hoped to have done more, but due to the coming monsoon season we had to delay three more projects in preparation for possible floods. However, we shall resume the project once we have our hands free.”

The ceremony at Kampung Pujut Padang Kerbau saw Law handing over house keys to a fire victim, Jemah Brahim, witnessed by Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang and Miri Resident Sherrina Hussaini.
