SIBU: Only Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) and not any other BN political parties can nominate the BN candidate for the Julau parliamentary seat in the coming election.

PRS secretary- general Datuk Joseph Salang said many party members had told him some outside individuals had gone around trying to promote their own choice of candidates for the seat.

“This is an exercise in sheer futility. Only PRS which owns the seat under the BN understanding can decide the candidate.

“There should be no outside interference. Similarly, PRS has no right to dictate to other BN component parties, “he said at a meet- the- people session at Rh. Unjah ak Mani, a 23 - door longhouse at Nanga Luau, Julau on Saturday.

with the party president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing or its other leaders for clarification.

“Similarly, members of other component parties can check with their respective presidents if indeed their party has been tasked with seeking new candidates for seats not belonging to them,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also advised those offering themselves as candidates not to resort to character assassination, ridiculing or running down the others in their bid to be chosen.

“If you do so you will create many enemies instead of allies whom you will need if you are eventually chosen.

“In other words, do not burn the proverbial bridge.

“The people ...they will judge you based on your action and word. They can tell if you are sincere and genuinely want to serve them,” he said.

He added those who aspired to be candidates should not be over ambitious as they could trip up along the way.

On his own position, he said Masing had announced publicly many times that he had been renominated to defend the seat.

“I am ready to take up this challenge again as I have no personal health issues now.

“The fi re is still burning strong within me to serve the people,” he said.

On the often repeated issue that he is not a local, he said this would not prevent the people from supporting him again as they had done in the past 18 years.

“My many relatives in here (Julau), Pakan and Bayong ( Ulu Sarikei) had told my critics straight in the face that I am not alone when they campaigned against me using this issue in four previous elections,” Salang said.

Earlier Salang visited another longhouse Rh. Mambang Kana, in Nanga Lingah also in Julau where he commissioned the 33door longhouse power supply project.
