Probe case of EPF account ‘shared’ with unknown male contributor, urges Voon
KUCHING: The Employees Provident Fund ( EPF) must look into a recently highlighted case of a man who found out that his wife’s EPF account was being ‘shared’ with an unknown male contributor.
In making the call, Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) Women national vice chief Voon Shiak Ni said although EPF has refuted the claim by saying the incident was untrue, the agency should not take the issue lightly.
In a press conference here yesterday, she asserted that the agency, which is responsible for managing the life savings of many Malaysians, should investigate the incident instead of just pushing it aside.
“This is alarming because we are not sure if this is a one- off case or just the tip of the iceberg. Most of us would be concerned because many people do not check the status of their EPF account regularly until they decide to withdraw their money.”
Voon said there were a total of 14.72 million EPF account holders nationwide up to last year.
“14.72 million is a huge number, but this is not about the number because if it affects one account holder, it is a problem already.
“We are not sure what is happening. Could it be a technical issue? We would like to give EPF the benefit of the doubt and we want EPF to investigate and clarify on the matter urgently. EPF must be answerable to the 14.72 million account holders,” she added.
