Disabled duo from Serian latest to benefit from social worker’s efforts

-

KUCHING: Two physically disabled persons from Serian recently received donations from a group of Good Samaritans brought together by volunteer social worker Lim Chee Haw.

Kuroi Richiok from Kampung Sebemban, and Likeng Nyawan from Kampung Mantung Marau, each received packs of rice and other food items to ease their family’s financial burden.

The simple handing- over ceremony took place here, where Kuroi was represented by his wife Annie Rani and Likeng by his wife Judy Apet.

Lim singled out three donors, namely Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, Jee Han Kong from Mile 21 Kuching - Serian Road, and Sandi Bunya from Matang for their generous contributions.

“The fact that these recipients are from Serian did not stop the donors from giving help. This spirit of giving back to society, irrespective of racial group or creed, should be encouraged among our people especially the younger generation,” said Lim.

He said Mark Mado from Kampung Marau, Serian had informed him about the plight faced by Kuroi and Likeng. Mark also came down to Kuching that day as he assisted by driving the recipients’ wives here to receive the donation.

“I came to know Mark after he rang me up in July, requesting for help to get a coffin for a departed family member in his village Mantung Marau,” explained Lim.

He revealed that 14 coffins, purchased with cash donations from Good Samaritans, have been delivered to poor families including Bau, Serian and Sri Aman.

Poor families facing difficulties during bereavement can contact Lim on 082-248153 or 016- 8070388 about the coffins, which have been placed at a coffin shop at Mile 3 1/2 here and are ready to be delivered upon request.

“I know what it feels to be poor, as I have endured poverty and hardship during my younger days. I will continue to assist the poor and needy in our society,” said the former Marine Police personnel.
