Misfourtun­e for Fatehah at UCI Track Cycling World Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: National el ite track cyclist Fatehah Mustapa failed to collect any points after she was involved in an accident during the women’s keirin final at the second leg of the Internatio­nal Cycling Union ( UCI ) Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester, England yesterday.

The rac e commi s sioner decided to disqualify the CIMB Pro Cyc l ing Team r ider’s participat­ion for causing the collision between Australian rider, Stephanie Morton and Simona Krupeckait­e of Lithuania who fell while heading to the last 200 metres of the finishing line.

German rider Kristina Vogel won the race ahead of two Netherland­s riders – Shanne Braspennin­cx and Laurine van Riessen who had to settle for silver and bronze in the meet held at the HSBC United Kingdom National Cycling Centre.

Earlier, two national elite riders – Azizulhasn­i Awang and Mohd Shah Firdaus Sahrom failed to make the cut for the sprint final after finishing in 30th and 31st places respective­ly out of 32 riders during the qualifying race.

Azizulhasn­i who is the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medallist clocked 10.243 seconds while Mohd Shah Firdaus posted 10.320 seconds.

Har rie Lavreysen of the Netherland­s won the race ahead of Mateusz Rudyk of Poland and Mat thew Glaetzer from Australia.

Azizulhasn­i and Mohd Shah will take part in the keirin event, later yesterday. — Bernama
