More than 1,000 PDRM members ready for disaster relief mission

TUMPAT: More than 1,000 Royal Malaysian Police ( PDRM) members along with various assets can be mobilised within half an hour to any area for disaster relief mission.

Director of Internal Security and Public Order Department, Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the team could be mobilised to the affected areas either by air, land or water.

“The team will carry out rescue mission especially in flooded areas. Actually, the police are already in all the areas but if asked for help, we will send this team,” he told reporters after observing the Marine Police Force ( PPM) on duty at Pengkalan Kubor near Kelantan-Thailand border here,

Also present were Kelantan deputy police chief, Datuk Din Ahmad, commander of PPM Region Three, ACP Zulkafli Saariat and the commander of Royal Thai Border Police, Capt Abdul Hakim Che Moh.

On another note, Zulkifli said cooperatio­n with the Thai authoritie­s was important as both parties share a common interest of not wanting any undesirabl­e elements to get through the border.

As such, the exchange of informatio­n was crucial in ensuring that smuggling, especially firearms, drugs and extremists such as Daesh militants could be eradicated.

“We can do a better job and want PPM to be equipped with more sophistica­ted equipment for more effective enforcemen­t,” he added. — Bernama
