Baru glad that more people are aware of NCR land issues

-

KUCHING: Ba Kalalan assemblyman Baru Bian is happy that the people on the ground are aware of the native customary rights ( NCR) land issues, which shows how important the matter is.

“I am very glad that all the representatives of all the races all over Sarawak turned up for the rally today. These people can only get the news through WhatsApp and telephone, but the people in the longhouses are not aware of the issues, else there will be thousands of them here today (yesterday),” he said when met at the NCR land rally at the Old Courthouse yesterday.

“I think it’s good that the issue is on the ground and the rakyat are now responding. I think it’s a good sign. You know, we fight in DUN (State Legislative Assembly), court of law, but if the rakyat themselves do not understand this whole issue, then we fight for nothing. So this is a victory on its own.”

He added that the organising committee would present a memorandum to the chief minister in the afternoon to request that ‘ pemakai menua’ and ‘ pulau galau’ be recognised and accorded force of law.

Meanwhile, the NCR Land Rally memorandum was handed over by its representative, Borneo Protection Action Committee chairman Philip Jau, to the state government which was received by security officer from Bilik Operasi Negeri, Ramli Kadir, outside the DUN compound at about 2.30pm. Almost 100 people had gathered there but were not allowed inside.
