Health clinics for Metalun, Tegulang ‘soon’, says Dr Annuar

-

BOTH Metalun and Tegulang in Murum will soon get their own health clinics as the Health Department has identified the sites and the Health Ministry has approved them.

In his reply to Murum assemblyman Chukpai Ugon’s questions, Housing and Public Health Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said that the application will be made under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).

“As for Long Urun, we found that it is not yet necessary as the nearest clinic is at Sungai Asap, about two hours away,” Dr Annuar said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sungai Asap health clinic will be upgraded and turned into a cluster clinic serving Sungai Koyan, Uma Sambop, Sarawak Hydro and Tubau health clinics.

“There are currently no plans to establish a haemodialysis treatment unit at the Sungai Asap clinic,” he said, adding the Health Department has increased the number of medical officers there from three to five.

In 2015, the clinic received around 128 patients per day, which increased slightly to 132 patients a day the following year.

Dr Annuar also responded to a query from Baru Bian ( PKRBa Kelalan) on the status of SK Long Sukang, whose construction had to be halted due to soil movement.

“Phase I, which were six classrooms and students’ hostel, was completed under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) and handed over on March 10, 2014.

“The administration block and canteen, under Phase II, will be implemented under 11MP.”

Dr Annuar explained that the project was set on pause at 70 per cent completion to allow for the monitoring of soil movement.

“We are in the process of appointing a consultant, as the original one has left the country,” he said, adding the federal government has allocated RM19 million and that it should not take much longer to complete the project.
