Call upon relevant agency to implement Batang Kayan bridge project immediatel­y

ONE government backbenche­r has called upon the relevant agency to take immediate action regarding the constructi­on of Batang Kayan bridge in Lundu.

Datuk Ranum Mina ( BNOpar) said the bridge project was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during the last state election.

However, he pointed out that there was still no sign of the project comencing.

“He ( Najib), during the last state election, announced the constructi­on of the project (Batang Kayan bridge) at a cost of RM10 million but to date, there seems no sign of the project.

“In view if this, it is really hoped that the relevant and responsibl­e agency would take appropriat­e action to implement the project,” he told the august House when debating the Supply Bill 2018.

Ranum also told the House that the road leading to Kampung Pasir Hilir, Kampung Kendaie and Kampung Selampit is in a deplorable condition and ought to be repaired.

He pointed out that the condition would become worse during the ‘ landas’ (monsoon) season, causing hardship to the villagers, especially school- children.

On water supply in the area, Ranum expressed his hope for the government to find alternativ­e ways to address this problem affecting those along the Lundu-Bau Road, while waiting for the constructi­on of the water project there.

According to him, the water problem is also affecting SMK Senibong.
